Trump Hands Himself In
Former President Donald Trump has handed himself on Thursday into the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta Georgia, over 13 felony charges as part of a wide-ranging criminal case stemming from his attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis asked for the trial to begin on Oct. 23 despite demands by the lawyer of Trump and other defendants to schedule the trial for next year.
As part of the detention, the former president had an inspection, and a simple medical checkup, and his fingerprints and mug shot would be taken. This is unprecedented in the history of the US for a former president who still has the Secret Service.
Through his lawyer, Trump attempted to get exempted from taking a mug shot of him, but the jail administration affirmed that Trump would not receive special treatment.
This raised concerns about the possibility of Trump receiving humiliating treatment during his detention especially since the Fulton County Jail has a notorious reputation.
